Project Instructions

  • 1
Project time does not include the time for the dye to dry.
  • 2
Place the wooden letters on your worktable with cardboard and paper towels under them to catch any dye that runs off the letters while you are painting them. You can touch them lightly with sandpaper to get any gloss off if they are not a raw finish.
  • 3
Shake Rit Dye bottles before using. Mix 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) Emerald dye in a small bowl with 1 cup hot water. Test color by dipping a paper towel in the dye. If too light, add more dye. Too dark, add more water.
  • 4
Using the sponge or paint brush, dip it directly into the dye bottle and paint directly on the wooden letters. Paint the entire letter, making sure to get the sides, not just the top. I did not paint the back of the letters. Let air dry.
  • 5
On a separate space, lay out a table cover and paper towels. Lay out the paper flowers.
  • 6
Mix 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) Tangerine dye with hot water in a spray bottle. Test color by spraying on a paper towel. If too light, add more dye. Too dark, add more water. Spray each flower as you like. The more spray, the deeper the color saturation on the flower. Let air dry. Repeat this step, this time with Fuchsia dye.
  • 7
After the wooden letters and paper flowers have dried glue the flowers where you want them on the letters. Let dry then add the letters as a fun accent to your room.
