Project Instructions

  • 1
Cut three strips from the foam board. One strip will be 4 inch x 8 inch, second strip will be 24 inch x 8 inch and third strip will be 22 inch x 8 inch.
  • 2
For the Wig, wrap Bikini yarn around 24 inch piece of foam board 20 times. Tie one side with a piece of yarn, and then cut the other side. Repeat an additional 13 more times. With the remainder of the two skeins, you will repeat step this wrapping step but use the 4 inch piece of foam board, creating 4 bundles of yarn for bangs.
  • 3
Cut the brim of the painters cap off and discard.
  • 4
Glue the 4 inch bangs across the front of the cap where the brim was cut off (approximately 2 inches above the edge of the cap).
  • 5
Starting right behind the bangs, glue center of yarn bundle (where tied together) to the back edge of cap.
  • 6
Gather each side to form ponytails. Tie with yarn. Trim as needed.
  • 7
For the bow, cut both sheets of Neon Lime felt to 8 inch x 11 inch (don’t discard scrap piece).
  • 8
Glue both sheets together; gather at center and wrap with 1 inch strip; glue in back and cut off excess.
  • 9
To create clown costume, wrap each tulle color (one at a time) around the 22 inch x 8 inch piece of foamboard; cut at both ends, resulting in 22 inch strips in all colors of tulle.
  • 10
Measure waist size; cut out elastic, measuring a little tighter as the elastic will have some stretch to it. Sew elastic together to create a loop.
  • 11
Fold 2 lengths of same color tulle in half. Place under elastic and run the ends of the tulle through the loop, creating a Lark’s Head knot. Continue to knot the tulle, alternating colors in a pattern around entire elastic. Tip: Place elastic loop around a chair back so it is easier to tie the knots around the entire circumference. Note there will be tulle left over that will be used for cuffs and pom poms.
  • 12
Glue ribbon on shirt to create the look of suspenders.
  • 13
To make cuffs for arms and legs, cut remaining tulle strips in half. Follow Steps 10 and 11 but measure child’s wrists and ankles and tie on with Lark’s Head knot one strip at a time. Note there will still be left over tulle to use for the “buttons”.
  • 14
For pom poms, cut remaining tulle strips again in half. Stack strips on top of one another, alternating colors and tie tightly in center. Puff out into pom pom and hot glue to front of shirt, creating three pom poms.
