Project Instructions

  • 1
Download and print the project template as needed to help you create this costume.
  • 2
Cut all tulle into 60 inch length strips. Tip: cut a length of foam board 30 inch x 8 inch. Use this to wrap the tulle around the board and then just cut at one end-no need to measure and cut constantly!
  • 3
Measure around child’s chest, right under arms to determine the length of elastic needed to create the dress; measure a little tighter as the elastic will have some stretch to it. Sew elastic together to create a loop.
  • 4
Fold two different color lengths of tulle in half. Place under elastic and run the ends of the tulle through the loop, creating a Lark’s Head knot. Continue to knot the tulle around the ribbon until the elastic is full, changing up the color combinations. Tip: Place elastic loop around a chair back so it is easier to tie the knots around the entire circumference.
  • 5
Starting at back of dress, wind thicker satin ribbon round the elastic, between the knots to add color and to hide the elastic. Hot glue or tack down the ribbon ends together.
  • 6
For the halter tie, use a yard (it’s better to have more than less) thinner satin ribbon to tie a Lark’s Head knot in the middle front of the dress.
  • 7
Cut flowers off bush (put larger mum flowers aside). Glue other flowers randomly onto the tulle dress.
  • 8
Glue larger mum flower where the knot is located for the neck halter ribbon.
  • 9
Use larger satin ribbon as a tie around waist of dress, finishing with a large bow in the back.
  • 10
Headband: Wrap 3/4 inch satin ribbon around headband, leaving a yard length tail of ribbon, using hot glue to tack down the ends; leave another yard tail on the other end of headband.
  • 11
Glue flowers in alternate pattern to the head band.
  • 12
For the wand, cut dowel to a piece that is 12 inch. Wrap ribbon around the dowel, using hot glue to tack down ends. Option: glue rhinestone to the bottom end of wand.
  • 13
Tie on additional ribbon at the top of the wand; glue down if necessary. Cut ribbon to different lengths.
  • 14
Glue on three mums around the top sides of the wand with fourth mum glued on top of wand.
