Project Instructions
-
1Download, print and cut out project templates.
-
2Using the felt, trace 34 of each of the following shapes for the tail feathers: Teardrop - Royal Blue Medium Circle - Turquoise Notched Oval - Purple
-
3For the mask and head band feathers, trace templates and cut out 20 of each for the feathers, using the shape and color references for the larger feathers in Step 2.
-
4Cut out the sleeves and sides of the Blue t-shirt using template for reference.
-
5Cut out the neck of the Sapphire t-shirt below the neck ribbing.
-
6Overlap the Royal Blue t-shirt over the Sapphire t-shirt and line up. Glue the edges of the Royal Blue shirt to the Sapphire t-shirt
-
7Hide seam by gluing down Blue glitter trim on the front and back of shirt.
-
8Measure waist size; cut out elastic braid, measuring a little tighter as the elastic will have some stretch to it. Sew elastic together to create a loop.
-
9Cut all Turquoise tulle into 28 inch lengths. Cut Purple and Royal Blue tulle into 40 inch length strips. Tip: cut 2 lengths of foam board 14 inch x 8 inch and 20 inch by 8 inch. Use this to wrap the tulle around the board and then just cut at one end-no need to measure and cut constantly!
-
10The front of the skirt will have the shorter, Turquoise tulle. Fold 2 lengths of tulle in half. Place under elastic and run the ends of the tulle through the loop, creating a Larks Head knot. Continue to knot the Turquiose tulle across the front, stopping in the area of the hips. Note: there will be extra Turquoise tulle to be used for adding in with remaining skirt. Tip: Place elastic loop around a chair back so it is easier to tie the knots around the entire circumference.
-
11Repeat Step 10 with Royal Blue and Purple tulle, adding in Turquoise until the elastic skirt is full.
-
12For the tail feathers, glue together as shown on template, finishing with a 12 mm rhinestone.
-
13Using photo as reference lay out feathers onto work surface; feathers are lined up as follows from top: 2/3/4/5/7/6/7, overlapping. Starting on bottom row, lift up corners of top of feathers and glue to the row above it. Continue to the top row. You will end up with a fabric of feathers.
-
14Securely glue top row (2 feathers) to the knots at the back of the skirt. Glue down the outside feathers of the third row to the skirt.
-
15Repeat Step 12 with the smaller feathers and 7 mm rhinestones.
-
16For mask, cut out template and trace onto Militia felt and cut out. Glue to front of mask. Cut out beak using template from Grey Felt. Glue on to create beak over nose part of mask.
-
17Glue first layer of feathers (7 of them) along the edge of mask. Glue second layer of feathers (4 of them) in front of first layer, alternating in between the spaces of the first layer of feathers.
-
18For head band, glue feathers starting with one feather and then overlapping with 2 rows of 2 feathers. Go back in and add three feathers as shown, over top the rows of 2. Use photo for reference.
