Project Instructions

  • 1
Follow the directions to get a feel for how to work with the knitter.
  • 2
String on the beads first. Alternating between the two beads gives the most even look when working with the knitter. Note that you will use one skein of the floss per necklace. This floss wants to separate easily on the ends, so once you’ve added on the Big Eye needle to string on the beads, tie a simple overhand knot to the end of the floss.
  • 3
After you’ve strung on the beads, you’ll now work on the knitter. Use the 6 peg top for this.
  • 4
The first 2 rounds of the knitting will be without beads (this makes for a thinner, more tapered ends for the connecting to the chain later. You will need to hold onto the thread on the pegs somewhat tightly until you get the first few rounds done because the thread will just want to “pop” off the pegs and unravel. Be a little patient with this part. Once you get it going, it is fast!
  • 5
Following the directions, feed a bead between each peg as you thread them on. Keep knitting until you get to near the end of the thread (you need to save some floss at the end to finish off and to tie onto the chain.
  • 6
Follow the directions for finishing off the chain, again repeating as you did in the beginning, using no beads for the last 2 rows, including the row that you finish off.
  • 7
There are probably a few different ways to attach the knitted tube to the chains, but I just did some knots to the chain, making sure that the end of the knitting was tight to the end of the chain (don’t want the thread hanging/showing next to the chain. Refer to the photos for reference.

This necklace is long enough that it can fit right over the head, or you could add a clasp if longer or multiple chains is wanted for the design.
