- Time:1 hour
Cut embroidery floss into three pieces, so that two lengths measure 5 feet each and one length measures 32 inches. Holding the two 5 ft pieces together, fold in half. Make an overhand knot about ¾ below fold so that a loop is created. Catch the loop in the clip of the clipboard and hang threads vertically. These strands will be the working threads of the square knots.
Center the 32 inch piece behind the strands hanging on the clipboard just above the knot. Tie in place. The ends of this 32 piece will be the square knot filler threads.
Reposition strands so that the 2 shorter filler threads hang vertically down the middle while 2 longer working strands hang to the left and two hang to the right. You are now ready to begin making square knots (note: the 2 strands on the left will work together as one working strand and the two on the right will work together as one working strand).
To begin bracelet, make a row of 11 or 12 square (SQ) knots using the working threads to form knots around the filler threads. (For square knot instructions, there are many great internet sites available with photo tutorials).
Take one filler strand and thread through the holes of a rhinestone spike bead. Slide bead up and position the other filler strand along groove of spike bead so that both filler strands again hang down. Make another 3 SQ knots.
Add the other 4 spike beads as instructed above, making 3 SQ knots in between each spike. After the 5th spike bead, make a row of 11 or 12 SQ knots. (Bracelet should fit comfortably around wrist with end of the beginning loop just meeting the last square knot. Add or subtract knots as needed.)
Thread the 8mm Hematite rhinestone bead onto the two filler strands and slide up. Gather together all the threads (filler and working) and make an overhand knot just below the bead. Trim threads, leaving a 1-1/4 tassel.
