Project Instructions

  • 1
Prepare your work area by spreading plastic sheeting over your work table and secure it with some tape.
  • 2
Separate your colors into deep containers, diluting with water as desired.
  • 3
Throughly wet the item you will be dying, remove excess water.
  • 4
For a 1 color gradient, carefully dip one end of dry shirt into the dye container as far as you would like it dyed. Move the fabric around slightly to even the color. Dip the remaining dry end of the shirt in water, ringing slightly. Remove and let hang to dry with the color hanging on top. (Cover floor or area under shirt to collect dripping dye).
  • 5
For a 2 color gradient, follow the steps above, but instead of dipping the remaining dry end in water, dip it into your second color. Hang to dry. More blending will occur if you hang the more saturated color on top.
  • 6
    Let air dry completely.
  • 7
Heat set in the dryer for 15 minutes.
  • 8
Optional: Make old clothes new again by dip dyeing jeans, tees, shikts and more!
