Nicole Crafts Sand Bug
Take the idea of sand art and expand on it a bit by using a few more supplies. We made a bug, but with a little creativity, you can use the many different plastic and acrylic containers and colors of sand available at A.C. Moore to make all sorts of things!
- Time:45 minutes
1Project time does not include drying time for the glue. If only making one of bugs, adjust supplies accordingly.
2Sand Bug (larger image): Use funnel to fill bottle with desired colors of sand. Wrap and twist three chenille stems around bottle and one around cap as shown. Glue to secure. Cut to desired lengths. Glue 1-1/2 inch pom poms to top of cap and bottom of bottle as shown. Cut one 4 inch piece of chenille stem. Bend in half and glue folded end to back of head for antennae. Glue 1/2 inch pom poms on the ends of antennae and on face for nose. Glue on eyes as shown.
3Glow Sand Bug (smaller image): Use funnel to fill bottle with desired colors of sand. Cut two 6 inch pieces of Yellow chenille stem. Bend into wing shapes and glue to bottle as shown. Cut two 3 inch pieces of Orange chenille stem. Curl and glue to cap for antennae. Cut two 1 inch pieces of Blue chenille stem. Bend in half and glue to top of cap. Glue Bright Green pom poms to Blue chenille stems, then glue wiggle eyes to pom poms. Glue remaining pom poms to bottle as shown.
4Don't forget: the only limit is your creativity. Instead of chenille stems, buy other supplies to make other objects.
