Project Instructions

  • 1
Download and print project template. Cut 20 small circles from White felt that have a 2-1/2 inch diameter. Cut 30 large circles from White felt that have a 3-1/2 inch diameter. Keep your spare felt handy, in case you need one or two extra circles.
  • 2
Cut all of your circles in half.
  • 3
Cut one 19 inch x 19 square, one 19 inch x 15 inch rectangle and one 19 inch x 12 inch rectangle from Black felt.
  • 4
Take the 19 inch square and on the right side trace in the middle, a large circle approximately 14 inch in diameter.
  • 5
Using the large semi-circles, which we will now call petals, line up the edge of a petal along the line you just traced. As you sew the petals onto the project, overlap the petals about 1/4 inch. Continue sewing around the circle, adding large petals.
  • 6
When you get near where you started, put a petal in between the first and last petals, so they overlap. Then start putting petals below the straight edge of the previous set, working toward the center of the pillow. Line up the straight edges about 1/4 inch or so below the edges of the previous circle of petals.
  • 7
Continue sewing round and round, creating row after row until you have completed four or five rows.
  • 8
To create extra volume in your petals, you can curve them and fold the edges as you sew to make the petals stand up a little bit. Usually this works best to start curving and bunching them a little bit on the third or fourth row.
  • 9
After the fourth or fifth row, begin using the smaller petals. Continue sewing round and round, creating row after row, but as you get closer to the center curve and bunch the petals as desired so that they stand up as real petals would.
  • 10
Once you get close to the center, add a couple of petals that are extra pinched at the bottom for extra volume.
  • 11
Cut a 1 inch diameter circle from the White felt.
  • 12
Place a dab of glue in the center of your felt circle and position the felt circle on the center of the flower to cover up the sewn edges.
  • 13
Place your pillow front with flower and two back rectangle pieces right sides together, lining up edges. Put the larger rectangle down first, then put your smaller rectangle on top if it, right sides together. Pin outer edges of pillow.
  • 14
Sew around the edges leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
  • 15
Before turning the pillow right side out, take your scissors and snip diagonally across the corners, removing some of the excess felt, which will make the corners look nice when the pillow is complete.
  • 16
    Turn pillow right side out.
  • 17
    Insert 18 inch pillow form.
  • 18
Glue Pink crystal to center of flower.
