- Time:2+ hours
Use a gauge of 6-1/2 sc (about 4 inch or 10 cm) to crochet a shrug that is approximately 42 inch x 38 inch (106-1/2 cm x 96-1/2 cm) before folding and seaming. Be sure to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches to match the gauge, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
A large hook is used to create an open fabric that will easily stretch to fit a range of sizes.
For shrug, Ch 69. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across 68 sts at the end of this row. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in each st across. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 38 inch (96-1/2 cm) from beginning.
For finishing, fold piece in half to measure 21 inch x 38 inch (53-1/2 cm x 96-1/2 cm). Place markers on each of the 21 inch (53-1/2 cm) sides, 7 inch (18 cm) below fold for armholes. Seam sides from markers down to lower edge. Weave in ends.
