1Use a gauge of 2 (sc, ch 3, 3 dc) groups and 4 rows (about 5 inch) to crochet an afghan that measures approximately 44 inch x 60 inch. Remember to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size hook; if it takes you more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook.
