Use a gauge of 13 hdc + 9-1/2 rows (4 inch) to crochet a jacket that measures 38 (43, 49, 54, 60) inch bust and 18 (18-1/2, 19-3/4, 20, 21) inch length. Be sure to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size hook; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size hook. Pattern and supplies are written for smallest size (Small) with changes for larger sizes (Medium, Large, 1X, 2X) in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow a pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning. You will need 5 skeins of yarn to make this jacket in size Small; 6 skeins for size Medium; 7 skeins for size Large; 8 skeins for size 1X; 9 skeins for size 2X. Download template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere. Special stitches and abbreviations: hdc2tog (hdc dec) = (Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) twice. Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. hdc3tog (hdc 2 dec) = (Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) 3 times. Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
