Lion Brand Fast-Track Two Color Bag

GAUGE:

9 sc + 10 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm).

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

Circumference at Top Edge: About 18 in. (45.5 cm)

Height: About 9 in. (23 cm), not including strap


PATTERN NOTES:

1. Bag is made in 3 pieces. The Bag is worked in joined rounds with RS always facing and with 2 colors of yarn.

2. To change yarn color at end of a rnd, work to joining sl st with old color. Insert hook in first st. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete joining sl st. Proceed with new color. Do not fasten off old color until instructed. Carry old color up inside of Bag until next needed.

3. Pleats are folded in top of Bag following diagram before working the final rnd.

    STITCH EXPLANATION

    rev sc (reverse single crochet) Single crochet worked from left to right (right to left, if left-handed). Insert hook into next stitch to the right (left), under loop on hook, and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.


    BAG

    With A, ch 30.

    Rnd 1 (RS): Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 27 ch, 4 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next 27 ch, 2 sc in next ch; join with sl st in first sc – you will have 62 sc in this rnd.

    Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 27 sts, 2 sc in each of next 4 sts, sc in next 27 sts, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts; join with sl st in first sc – 70 sc.

    Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 27 sts, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 4 times, sc in next 27 sts, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) twice; join with sl st in first sc – 78 sc.

    Rnd 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as join, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 29 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) 3 times, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 29 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) twice; join with sl st in first sc – 86 sc.

    Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 41 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 42 sts, 2 dc in next st; join with sl st in first sc – 88 sc.

    Rnds 6-12: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc and change to B at end of Rnd 12.

    Rnd 13: With B, ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc and change to A.

    Rnd 14: With A, ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc and change to B. Fasten off A.

    Rnds 15-21: With B, ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.

    Place a marker in the 3rd, 20th, 25th, 42nd, 47th, 64th, 69th, and 86th st. Following diagram, fold pleats in the top edge between the first and 2nd markers, the 3rd and 4th markers, the 5th and 6th markers, and the 7th and 8th markers. Use binder clips to hold the pleats in place.

    Rnd 22: With B, ch 1, working through all thicknesses of pleats and single thickness between pleats, and removing binder clips as you work, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc – 40 sc.

    Rnd 23: Ch 1, rev sc in each st around; join with sl st in beg ch-1.

    Fasten off.

    FLAP

    With B, ch 8.

    Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 5 ch, 4 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next 6 ch – 16 sc.

    Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, turn, sc in first 6 sts, 2 sc in each of next 4 sts, sc in last 6 sts – 20 sc.

    Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 6 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 4 times, sc in last 6 sts – 24 sc.

    Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 6 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) 4 times, sc in last 6 sts – 28 sc.


    Edging

    Rnd 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 6 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts) 4 times, sc in last 6 sts; ch 1, working in ends of rows, work 10 sc evenly spaced along straight edge of flap; join with sl st in first sc – 42 sc.

    Rnd 6: Ch 1, rev sc in each st to center of curved edge, ch 3, sk next st (buttonhole made), rev sc in each st to end of rnd; join with sl st in beg ch-1.

    Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.


    STRAP

    With A, ch 72.

    Fasten off.

    Rnd 1 (RS): From RS, join B with sc in first ch, 2 sc in same ch, sc in next 70 ch, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next 70 ch; join with sl st in first sc – 146 sc.

    Rnd 2: Ch 1, rev sc in each st around; join with sl st in beg ch-1.

    Fasten off.

    FINISHING

    Using attached long yarn tail, sew straight edge of Flap to one side of top edge of Bag. Sew ends of Strap to narrow ends of top edge of Bag. Sew button to front of Bag, opposite buttonhole.

    Weave in ends.
