1Use a gauge of 13 sts and 15 rows (about 4 inch or 10 cm) in sc using MC 5 rep (open spaces in the mesh) x 6 rep (about 4 inch or 10 cm) in filet mesh patt using CC to crochet a clutch that measures about 7 inch wide by 4 inch long. Save time and check your gauge. If you cannot obtain the required gauge, switch to a different crochet hook.
2Clutch Base Layer With MC, ch 27. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn 26 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Rep row 2 until Base Layer measures 11 inch from beg. Fasten off. Overlay With CC, ch 27. Row 1: DC in 5th ch from hook, * ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn. Row 2: Ch 4, sk 1st dc, * dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk 1 dc; rep from * end dc under ch-4, turn. Rep row 2 until Overlay measures 11 inch from beg. Fasten off.
3Finishing Lay Overlay on top of Base Layer. With thread and sewing needle, sew layers together all the way around perimeter. With one short end of piece facing you, with MC layer facing up, measure 4 inch up from bottom edge. Fold this end toward top, pin in place. Sew sides tog on each side for 4 inch, forming the body of the bag. The remaining unsewn 3 inch forms clutch flap. Sew male part of snap to underside of flap, 1/2 inch from top edge of flap. Fold flap down onto body of clutch, and mark location for female snap piece directly beneath male snap. Sew on female snap piece. Sew button on RS (Overlay side) of flap, directly on male snap piece. Weave in ends.
