Project Instructions

    Use a gauge of 2-1/2 inch wide and 2-1/2 inch high for the snowball to crochet a hat that measures approximately 20 inch in circumference and 8 inch in height (Adult Medium/Large). Save time, check your gauge. If the hook listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge. Download template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere. Special abbreviation/Special stitch: dc2tog = double crochet 2 sts together lp = loop cluster = cl = [Insert hook in next st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and pull through 2 lps on hook] specified number of times, yo and pull through all lps on hook Note: To change colors: Work st until 2 loops rem on hook, drop working color and with new color, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook. Continue with new color.

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next ch, * sk 3 ch, 7 dc in next ch, sk next 3 ch, sc in each of the next 3 ch; rep from * to last 4 ch, sk next 3 ch, 4 dc in last ch, changing to Silver Shine in last st, turn. Row 2:  With Silver Shine, ch 1, sc in each of the next 2 sts, * ch 3, 7-dc cl over next 7 sts, ch 3, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * to last 4 sts, ch 3, sc in next 4 sts, turn. Row 3:  Ch 1, 3 sc in 1st st, * sk ch-3 sp, sc in each of next 3 sc, sk ch-3 sp, 7 dc in top of cl; rep from *across, ending with sk ch-3 sp, sc in each of last 2 sc, changing to Moody Midnight in last st, turn. Row 4:  Ch 3, sk 1st st, 3-dc cl over next 3 sts, * ch 3, sc in each of next 3 sts, ch 3, 7-dc cl over next 7 sts; rep from * ending with 7-dc cl, ch 3, sc in turning ch. Fasten off. With Moody Midnight and tapestry needle, sew sides tog to form circle.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc throughout), dc in each sc, 3 dc in each ch 3 sp, 3 dc top of each cl, around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join.   Rnd 2:  Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st in 3 rd ch of beg ch-3 to join. Rnd 3:  Ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in next st; rep from * around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join. Rnd 4:  Ch 3, *dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog; rep from * around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join. Rnd 5:  Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join. Rnd 6:  Ch 3, *dc2tog, dc in next dc; rep from * around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join. Rnd 7:  Ch 3, dc2tog around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join. Fasten off.

    Finishing: Cut yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail for gathering Crown.  Run yarn through the rem loops and draw tightly closing Crown.   Weave in ends.
