Use a gauge of 7 hdc (about 4 inch) and one square (14 inch x 14 inch) to crochet an afghan that measures approximately 42 inch x 42 inch. Be sure to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches to match the gauge, try using a smaller size hook; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size hook.
