Caron United Waffle Stitch Scarf

1Use a gauge of 17 sts and 23 rows (4 inch) in stocking stitch to knit a scarf that measures approximately 7-1/2 inch wide x 64 inch long (excluding fringe). Save time, check your gauge. If the needles listed under supplies do not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge. Download the template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere.
2Cast on 31 sts.
1st row: (RS). *K3. P1. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
2nd row: K1. *P1. K3. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K1. P1.
3rd to 6th rows: Rep 1st and 2nd rows twice more.
7th row: K1. *P1. K3. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K1. P1.
8th row: *K3. P1. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
9th to 12th rows: Rep 7th and 8th rows twice more.
These 12 rows form Texture Pat.
Cont in Texture Pat until work from beg measures approx 64 inch, ending on a 6th or 12th row of pat. Cast off.
Cut lengths of yarn 16 inch long. Taking 3 strands tog, fold in half and knot into fringe evenly across each end of Scarf. Trim fringe evenly.
