1Use a gauge of 18 sts and 24 rows (4 inch) with larger needles in stocking st to knit a sweater that measures 17 (18, 19, 21) inch to fit chest measurement and 20 (22, 24, 26) inch to finished chest measure to fit approximately 6 (12, 18, 24) months. Remember to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size needle; if it takes you more stitches and rows, try a larger size needle. Download template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere and the pattern. Special abbreviations: M1 = Make 1 stitch by picking up horizontal loop lying before next stitch and knitting into back of loop. Stripe Pat = With White: 4 rows. With Hidy Ho Varig: 4 rows. These 8 rows form Stripe Pat. Pattern and supplies are written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size. You will need 1 skein of both Hidy Ho Varig and Tiny Sprite to make this Sweater in 6 month size; 1 skein in 12 month size; 1 skein in 18 month size and 1 skein for 24 month size; you will need 1 skein of White to make this Sweater in 6 month size; 1 skein in 12 month size; 1 skein in 18 month size and 2 skeins for 24 month size.
2Back: **With smaller needles and Hidy Ho Varig, cast on 46 (50, 54, 58) sts. 1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row. 2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row. Rep last 2 rows once more. Change to pair of larger needles. Work Stripe Pat in stocking st until Back from beg measures 6-1/2 (7, 7, 7-1/2) inch ending on a WS row. Place markers at each end of row for sleeve placement. ** Work even until back measures 11 (12, 13, 14) inch. Cast off.
3Front: Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
4Shape Neck: 1st row: (RS). K10 (12, 14, 16) sts. Slip last K10 (12, 14, 16) sts to stitch holder for Left shoulder. Cast off 26 for Neck. K10 (12, 14, 16). Work even until right shoulder measures same as Back to shoulder. Cast off. With WS facing, join yarn to Left shoulder. Work even until Left Front measures same as back to shoulder. Cast off. Sew shoulder seams.
5Sleeves: With larger needles, Hidy Ho Varig and RS facing, pick up and knit 40 (44, 50, 54) sts between marker at right side edge of Front and Back (working across shoulder seam). Work stripe pat in stocking st, dec 1 st at each end of row every 6th row 3 (5, 8, 10) times. 34 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 5 (6-1/2, 8, 10) inch, ending on 4th row or 8th row of Stripe Pat. Change to pair of smaller straight needles. With Tiny Sprite, knit 1 row. Next row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row. Next row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row. Rep last 2 rows once more. Cast off.
6Collar: With circular needle, Tiny Sprite and RS facing, pick up and knit 24 (30, 30, 32) sts up Right neck, 32 sts across back neck, and 24 (30, 30, 32) down Left Neck. 80 (92, 92, 96) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows; Next row: (WS). *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row. Next row: *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row. Rep last 2 rows (K2. P2) rib until Collar measures 6 inch ending on a RS row. Cast off loosely (WS).
7Finishing: Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with damp cloth leaving cloth to dry. Sew sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams. Overlap side edges of Collar and sew to Front Neck.
