Project Instructions

    Use a gauge of 22 sts + 30 rows (about 4 inch) in st st using larger needles to knit this pullover. Remember to check your gauge. Use any size needles to obtain gauge. Download template for special and standard knitting stitches and abbreviations not explained elsewhere and the pattern. You will need 1 skein of Baby Blue for baby 6 months and 12 months; and 2 skeins for baby 18 months and 24 months. Pattern and supplies are written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. Finished Chest: 21 (22, 24, 25) inch. Finished Length: 10-1/2 (12, 13-1/2, 14-1/2) inch.

    Sweater Back With smaller needles, cast on 54 (58, 62, 66) sts. Work in K2, p2 rib for 1-1/2 inch, end with Row 2, increasing 3 sts evenly across last row – 57 (61, 65, 69) sts. Row 1 (Right Side): Change to larger needles, p0 (2, 1, 0), beginning with Row 1, work in Checker st to last 0 (2, 1, 0) sts, p0 (2, 1, 0). Row 2: K0 (2, 1, 0), work Row 2 of Checker st to last 0 (2, 1, 0) sts, k0 (2, 1, 0). Work in Checker st as established until piece measures 10-1/2 (12, 13-1/2, 14-1/2) inch from beginning, end with a wrong side row.

    Shape Shoulders Bind off 7 (8, 8, 9) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 8 (8, 9, 9) sts at beginning of following 2 rows—27 (29, 31, 33) sts. Slip sts to a stitch holder for Back Neck.

    Front With smaller needles, cast on 54 (58, 62, 66) sts. Work in K2, p2 rib for 1-1/2 inch, end with Row 2, increasing 6 sts evenly across last row – 60 (64, 68, 72) sts. Row 1 (Right Side): Change to larger needles, k0 (1, 0, 0), p2 (3, 0, 2), beginning with Row 1, work in Checker st across next 21 (21, 27, 27) sts, work Cable Panel across next 14 sts, work Checker st across next 21 (21, 27, 27) sts, p2 (3, 0, 2), k0 (1, 0, 0). Row 2: P0 (1, 0, 0), k2 (3, 0, 2), work Row 2 of patterns across to last 2 (4, 0, 2) sts, k2 (3, 0, 2), p0 (1, 0, 0). Work in patterns as established until piece measures 8-3/4 (10, 11-1/2, 12-1/4) inch from beginning, end with a wrong side row.

    Shape Neck Next Row (Right Side): Work 21 (23, 24, 25) sts, slip center 18 (18, 20, 20) sts to a stitch holder for Front Neck, join a second ball of yarn and work to end of row—21 (23, 24, 25) sts each side. Working both sides at same time with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each Neck edge every row 4 times, then every other row 2 (3, 3, 3) times – 15 (16, 17, 18) sts each side. Work until piece measures same length as Back to Shoulders, end with a wrong side row.

    Shape Shoulders: Bind off 7 (8, 8, 9) sts at each side edge once, then 8 (8, 9, 9) sts at each side edge once.

    Sleeve: With smaller needles, cast on 34 (34, 38, 42) sts. Work in K2, p2 rib for 1-1/2 inch, end with Row 2, increasing 1 st on last row – 35 (35, 39, 43) sts. Row 1 (Right Side): Change to larger needles, p1 (1, 0, 2), beginning with Row 1, work in Checker st to last 1 (1, 0, 2) sts, p1 (1, 0, 2). Row 2: K0 (1, 0, 2), work Row 2 of Checker st to last 1 (1, 0, 2) sts, k1 (1, 0, 2). Work in Checker st as established, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 7 (10, 12, 12) times, working new sts in Checker st – 49 (55, 63, 67) sts. Work until piece measures 6-1/2 (8, 9, 10) inch from beginning, end with a wrong side row. Bind off.

    Sew right Shoulder seam.

    Neckband With right side facing and smaller needles, join yarn at Left Neck edge, pick up and k16 (19, 19, 20) sts down left Front Neck edge, k18 (18, 20, 20) from Front stitch holder, dec 2 sts evenly across, pick up and k16 (19, 19, 20) sts up right Front Neck edge and k27 (29, 31, 33) from Back stitch holder, dec 1 st – 74 (82, 86, 90) sts. Beginning with Row 2, work in K2, p2 Rib for 1 inch. Bind off. Sew left Shoulder and Neckband seam.

    Place markers 4-1/2 (5, 5-1/2, 6) inch down from Shoulder seam on Front and Back. Sew top of Sleeves between markers. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Weave in ends.
