Project Instructions

Use a gauge of 12 sts and 15 rows (4 inch) in sc and sassy-sc skirt patten and a gauge of 12-1/2 sts and 10-1/2 rows in cross-sc bodice pattern to crochet a dress that measures 18 (19, 20-1/2, 22) inch in chest measurement and 14-3/4 (16, 17-3/4 inch, 18) inch in length (including 1-3/4 inch of Pink Dot that hangs below the lower edge of the dress. Remember to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size hook; if it takes you more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook. Download template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere and the pattern. Special stitches: cross-sc (crossed single crochet) = Skip next stitch, sc in next stitch, working over stitch just made, sc in skipped stitch. sassy-sc (sassy single crochet) = With loop of White on hook, hold Pink Dot in front of work with holes along top, insert hook from back to front through next hole, insert hook from front to back through next stitch, yarn over with White and draw through stitch and back through hole (2 loops of White remain on hook), yarn over with White and draw through both loops on hook. sc2tog = [Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Notes: Dress is worked from the lower edge of the skirt upwards. Skirt is worked in rounds of single crochet and sassy-single crochet. Bodice is worked in rows of a cross-sc pattern. When work reaches armholes, the piece is divided and the Left Back, Front, and Right Back are worked separately to the shoulders. All crochet stitches in this design are worked with White. There are holes running along one side of Pink Dot. You will be crocheting with White through the holes in Pink Dot. When starting a skein of Pink Dot, trim Pink Dot close to first hole, fold Pink Dot so that first hole is aligned behind second hole, and work first sassy-sc by inserting hook through both holes. When ending a skein of Pink Dot, trim Pink Dot close to last hole, fold Pink Dot so that last hole is behind next to last hole, and work last sassy-sc by inserting hook through both holes. When you end one skein of Pink Dot and need to begin another, fold last hole of ending skein as in Note #4, fold first hole of new skein as in Note #3, align the 2 new skein holes behind the 2 ending skein holes, and work next sassy-sc by inserting hook through all 4 holes. When working sassy-sc, inserting hook from back to front through hole gives Pink Dot a little twist allowing it to flair out. Drop Pink Dot to front of work when not being used. Directions and supplies are written for smallest size, 6 months, with changes for larger sizes (12 months, 18 months, 24 months) in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes: You will need 1 skein of White to make this Dress in 6 month size; 1 skein of White for 12 month size; 2 skeins of White for 18 month size and 2 skeins of White for 24 month size. You will need 2 skeins of Pink Dot, regardless of the size you are making. Y ou will need 4 buttons to make this dress in 6 month size; 5 buttons for 12 month size, 5 buttons for 18 month size and 5 buttons for 24 month size.
