Use a gauge of about 11 fdc sts and 7 rows (about 4 inch) to crochet a cowl that measures about 4 inch x 59 inch. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge.

    Special stitches and abbreviations:
Fdc (foundation double crochet) = First st: Ch 3, yarn over, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first dc), yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the “base chain”); [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice (first fdc completed). Next Fdc: *Yarn over, insert hook into the “base chain” of the previous stitch (taking care to go under both strands of the chain) and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the “base chain”); [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice (the “double crochet”) Repeat from * for the length of foundation.
Cl (cluster) = Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook); yarn over, insert hook in same stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook; yarn over and draw through all 3 loops remaining on hook.
    Notes:
When working the foundation dc, you may wish to place a marker in the top ch of the beginning ch-2 (first dc) to see where to join the first row into a round.
You may find it helpful to hold the “chain” with your thumbnail to indicate where you will be starting the next stitch.
Cowl is worked in joined rounds with right side facing at all times.
