Quickly and easily knit a trendy cowl!

1Use a gauge of 8 sts and 24 rows (4 inch) in Garter st (knit 1 round, purl 1 round); 12 rows (1 pattern repeat); 3-1/2 inch in pattern (1 pattern repeat = 10 rounds of Garter St and 2 rounds drop stitch) to knit a cowl that measures 26 inch in circumference and 19 inch high when fully extended but not including tassels. Save time, check your gauge. If the hook or needle listed under supplies does not work, use the size that allows you to obtain the required gauge. Download the template for abbreviations and stitches not explained elsewhere.
Cowl is worked in the round, alternating sections of Garter stitch and Drop stitch.
Tassels are attached to the lower edge to complete cowl.
2Cast on 52 sts. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Prepare to work in rounds.
3Garter Stitch Section:
Round 1 (right side): Knit.
Round 2: Purl.
Rounds 310: Repeat last 2 rounds 4 more times (for a total of 10 rounds of Garter st worked in rounds).
4Drop Stitch Section:
Round 11: *K1, yo twice; repeat from * around.
Round 12: *P1, drop the next 2 yo off needle; repeat from * around52 sts.
Rounds 1360: Repeat Rounds 112 four more times.
Rounds 6170: Repeat Rounds 110.
Bind off loosely.
Weave in ends.
Wrap yarn 4 times around 6 inch piece of heavy cardboard. Cut the strands at lower edge. Insert crochet hook, from wrong side to right side, into lower edge of cowl. Hold all 4 strands together and fold in half. Place fold on hook and draw fold through forming a loop on the wrong side of the piece. Thread ends of strands into the loop and pull to tighten tassel. Repeat to attach tassels, about 1 inch apart, all the way around lower edge of cowl. Trim tassels to even.
