Red Heart Super Saver Americana Table Runner

Decorate a star-spangled table with a runner of crocheted stars. It will give your table setting style on July 4th and Memorial Day -- and can be easily washed and reused for other patriotic events and picnics all summer long!

Project Instructions

    Use a gauge of 12 sts and 14 rows (4 inch) in single crochet to crochet a star that measures 12 inch in diameter (finished runner measures 12 inch wide x 60 inch long). Be sure to check your gauge. If it takes you less chains to match the gauge, try using a smaller size hook; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size hook. Download the template, if needed, for commonly used abbreviations in yarn projects.
    Special Stitch:
    Single crochet 2 together (sc2tog): [Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all three loops.
    standing sc: Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in designated st, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook.

    Star (make 3 with Cherry Red and 2 with Royal Blue)

    Ch 2.
    Round 1 (right side): Work 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join --– 10 sc. Place marker in first st of round and move marker up as work progresses.
    Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around --– 20 sc.
    Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around –-- 30 sc.
    Round 4: * Sc in next two stitches, two sc in the next; repeat from* 10 times –-- 40 sc.
    Round 5: Sc in each sc around.
    Round 6: *Sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around --– 50 sc.
    Round 7: Sc in each sc around.
    Round 8: *Sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around –-- 60 sc.
    Round 9: Sc in each each sc around.
    Round 10: *Sc in each of next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around –-- 70 sc.
    Round 11: Sc in each sc around.
    Work now progresses in rows.

    Point #1
    Row 1: Sc in each of next 12 sts, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked –-- 12 sc.
    Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog over first 2 sts, sc in each st across to last 2 sts, sc2tog over last 2 sts, turn – 10 sts.
    Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
    Row 4 through 9: Repeat Rows 2 & 3 (3 times) – 4 sc at end of last row.
    Row 10: Ch 1, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] twice, turn –-- 2 sts.
    Row 11: Ch 1, sc2tog over next 2 sts – 1 st.
    Fasten off.

    Row 1: With right side facing, skip next 2 sts after last point, join same color with standing sc in next sc, sc in each of next 11 sc, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 12 sc.
    Row 2 through 11: Work same as Rows 2 through 11 of Point #1.

    Edging
    Round 1: With right side facing, join Soft White with standing sc at side of any point, *sc evenly across to top of point, 3 sc in point, sc evenly across other side of point, sc in next 2 sc in Round 11 of Center; repeat from * around, join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off Soft White.

    Finishing
    Weave in ends. Using photograph as a guide, sew stars together at the points with Soft White.
