1Use a gauge of 18 sts and 32 rows (4 inch) in Garter st (knit every row) to knit a placement that measures 14 inch tall by 19 inch wide and a napkin ring that measures 2-1/2 inch tall by 6 inch wide. Remember to check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size needles and hooks; if it takes you more stitches and rows, try a larger size needles and hooks.
