Project Instructions

  • 1
Use a gauge of about 12 sts and 15 rows (about 4 inch) in single crochet a menorah that measures approximately 10 inch wide x 10 inch tall (not including candles. Center candle (shamash) measures 4 inch tall. Regular candles measure 3 inch tall. Save time, check your gauge. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches to make a 4 inch square, try using a smaller size needle or hook; if it takes you more stitches, try a larger size needle or hook.
Download the template for abbreviations not explained elsewhere.
    Special stitches and abbreviations:
sc2tog = [Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Adjustable-ring method = Wrap yarn into a ring, ensuring that the tail falls behind the working yarn. Grip ring and tail firmly between middle finger and thumb. Insert hook through center of ring, yarn over (with working yarn) and draw up a loop. Work stitches of first round in the ring, working over both strands (the tail and the ring). After the first round of stitches is worked, pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring.
    Notes:
All pieces are made in joined rounds with right side facing at all times.
Four pairs of branch slots are formed on sides of main shaft.
Rolled cardboard tube is inserted in main shaft. Shaft is filled with polyester pellets and Poly-fil to stabilize menorah. Branches are stuffed with Poly-fil.
Work tightly to ensure that Poly-fil doesn’t show through the stitches. To avoid stretching stitches, don’t overstuff the Poly-fil.
