Summer Reading Fun: The Lorax
Teach your budding ecologist to speak for the trees! Just as The Lorax would have wanted us to (and not just on Earth Day, either), we upcycled a toilet paper tube to bring this earth-friendly character to life.
A child who reads opens a world of learning experiences. Don't close the book on this opportunity simply because school's out for summer. Encourage your kids to keep reading. Then, help them make crafts based on those books. Oh, the places your kids will go!
- Level:beginner (5 + up)
- Time:1 hour + drying time
1Make Body: Paint the cardboard toilet paper tube Jack-O-Lantern with the foam brush. Let it dry.
2Add Details: Apply glue to the tube where you want Lorax's mustache to go. Cut a piece from a 2 inch Yellow pom pom and attach to the glue. When the glue sets, you can trim until you like how it looks. Use paper punch to make two Orange foam circles using the hole punch. Glue one on top of the mustache for Lorax's nose and the other under the mustache for his mouth. Glue on the wiggle eyes. Apply tacky glue to the tube over each eye. Cut pieces from the Yellow pom pom and attach to the tube. When the glue sets, you can trim these pieces to look like eyebrows. If you haven't already done so, download, print and follow the instructions on the project template. Glue the Orange foam arms to the back of the tube.
