Teddy Bear Ladybug
Picnic time for teddy bears! Our fuzzy friend is going to the party in disguise as a lovely ladybug. This quick and simple no-sew bear costume comes together in just minutes for hours of dress-up play. Use the same pattern with different colors of felt to make a buzzy bumblebee, a beautiful butterfly or even a plump pumpkin.
- Level:beginner (6 + up)
- Time:1 hour
1Download, print and follow instructions on project template before starting.
Note: Our instructions were written by working with a 12 inch teddy bear. If you have a bigger or smaller bear, you may need to adjust your templates.
2Make Shirt: Pin the pieces of the template onto the felt. Cut out the felt pieces. For pieces that need to be cut on the fold, as per the template, fold one piece of felt in half and place the template where marked on the fold. For the side of the shirt where you need to cut two separate pieces, fold the felt in half, pin the template to the center and cut both at the same time. Place the cut felt pieces right side to right side and matching the shoulders and sides. Glue the shoulders together and the sides together. When the glue has set, turn the shirt right side out. Attach three Velcro dots to the front edges to close the shirt.
3Add a Hat: If you have not already done so, cut the slit in the hat where indicated on the template. Cut a chenille stem in half to make two 6 inch pieces. Glue the end of one 6 inch Black chenille stem to the inside of the hat at the bottom of the slit facing towards the front. Repeat with the other 6 inch chenille stem on the other slit. Glue the right and left sections under the center section to create the shape of the hat. Make sure the chenille stems are on the outside of the hat. Cut two 12 inch pieces of ribbon. Glue one end of one piece on the bottom inside right front corner. Repeat with other piece on the bottom inside left front corner.
4Add Features: Curl the chenille stems to create antennae. Place the bears ears into the cut out sections and tie the ribbon in a bow under the bears head.
