Wilton Arrow & Hearts Valentine's Day Cookies

These arrow and heart cookies will make the perfect treat for entertaining Cupid or your special sweetheart this Valentine’s Day.

Project Instructions

    Valentine Arrow Cookies
    Step A: Two days before serving cookies, roll out cookie dough 1/8" thick; cut with arrow cutters from both cookie cutter sets listed in supplies. Bake and cool cookies following recipe instructions.
    Step B: Make royal icing by beating 6 tablespoons meringue powder, 8 cups confectioners' sugar and 10 tablespoons warm water until icing forms peaks (7-10 minutes at low speed with a heavy-duty mixer, 10-12 minutes at high speed with a hand-held mixer).
    Step C: Reserve 1-1/2 cups of this icing. Then use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint icing in the following shades:
    Metallic Gold: 2 cups White royal icing + 7 BK + 7 O + 20 Y
    Winter Red: 2 cups white royal icing + 40 R
    Step D: Prepare decorating bag with tip 3; fill with Winter Red icing.
    Step E: Outline cookies with Red icing; let dry 1 hour. Thin Red and portions of White and Gold icing to flow-in consistency by adding a 1/2 teaspoon of water at a time until you reach a pouring consistency; place in decorating bags. Cut small tip from bag and flow in cookies. Let dry 8-12 hours.
    Step F: Place medium consistency Gold icing in decorating bag with tip 2. On the large arrows, pipe details. Thin remaining gold icing; flow in arrow tips. For small arrows, flow in Gold. Let dry 8-12 hours.
    Step G: Spray Gold Color Mist into a small glass bowl; paint arrows on cookies.

    Valentine Heart Cookies
    Step A: One day in advance of serving cookies, roll out cookie dough 1/8” thick; cut with second largest heart cutter. Bake and cool cookies following recipe instructions.
    Step B: Make royal icing as you did in step 1, and again reserve 1-1/2 cups of this icing. Then make Winter Red and Metallic Gold icings, also following the formulas in step 1.
    Step C: Prepare decorating bag with tip 3; fill with Red icing.
    Step D: Outline cookies with Winter Red icing; let dry about 1 hour.
    Step E: Thin White icing as you did earlier to flow-in consistency; place in decorating bag. Cut small tip from decorating bag; flow in outline. Let dry 8-12 hours.
    Step F: Prepare decorating bag with tip 10; fill with Winter Red icing. Prepare decorating bag with tip 1 and Metallic Gold icing.
    Step G: Pipe a tip 10 Winter Red heart in the center of the cookie; pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Pipe gold arrows with gold icing. Let dry, about 2 hours.
    Step H: Prepare Gold Mist as you did in the last part of step 1. Use brush to paint arrows on cookies.

    Arrow Cut-Out Heart Cookies
    Step A: One day in advance of serving cookies, roll out cookie dough 1/8” thick; cut with second largest heart cutter; use arrow cutter to cut center from heart. Bake and cool following recipe instructions.
    Step B: Prepare royal icing as you have in previous steps. Reserve two cups of this icing, then tint icing as you also have previously. Prepare decorating bag with tip 3; fill with Winter Red icing.
    Step C: Outline heart cookies with Winter Red icing and arrow cookies with Winter Red and Metallic Gold icing; let dry 1 hour.
    Step D: Thin remaining White, Winter Red and a portion of Metallic Gold icing as you have earlier to flow-in consistency; place in decorating bags. Cut small tip from bag and flow in cookies. Let dry 8-12 hours.
    Step E: Place medium consistency gold icing in decorating bag with tip 1. Pipe snowflake details on cookie. Let dry, about 2 hours.
    Step F: Prepare Gold Mist as you did in previous steps. Use brush to paint snowflakes.
