    Project time does not include time needed to neither bake nor cool cookies and/or whoopie pies.
    Since royal icing takes at least eight hours to dry, you might want to start certain components of this project at least a day before serving.
    On both the cookies and the whoopie pies, combine Christmas Red icing with Red-Red icing to get the Red icing shown.

    Whoopie Pies:
    Prepare whoopie pie batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool two whoopie pie halves for each treat. Trim as needed.
    Tint portion of decorator icing Orange and smaller portions Black and Red; reserve some white. Use tip 12, a cut disposable decorating bag and Orange icing to cover top of one whoopie pie half. Use spatula to smooth. Position top whoopie pie half. For nonpareil-covered treats, roll edge of icing in Orange nonpareils.
    Use tip 12, a cut disposable decorating bag and Orange icing to cover top of whoopie pie. Use spatula to smooth. For nonpareil-covered treats, dip top of treat in Orange nonpareils. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and Black icing to pipe outline seams. For hoop design, use tip 5, a cut disposable decorating bag and Red icing to pipe outline hoop. Use tip 2, a cut disposable decorating bag and White icing to pipe lattice net.

    Cookies:
    Prepare and roll out dough following recipe directions. Use smallest circle cutter (2-3/4 inch) from set to cut basketball cookies. For backboard cookies, use knife to cut rectangles, each 3-3/4 inch long x 2-3/4 inch wide. Bake and cool cookies.
    Prepare color flow icing according to package directions. Tint portions of icing Ivory, Red, Orange and Black; reserve some White. Thin portions of Ivory and Orange icing according to package directions. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and full-strength Ivory icing to outline backboard cookies. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and full-strength Orange icing to outline basketball cookies. Use thinned Ivory and Orange icings in cut disposable decorating bags, separately, to fill in cookies. Let cookies dry overnight.
    Use tip 5, a cut disposable decorating bag and full-strength Red icing to pipe outline hoop. Use tip 2, a cut disposable decorating bag and full-strength White icing to pipe lattice for bottom of net and zigzag for net area inside hoop. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and full-strength Black icing to pipe outline seams on ball. Let dry, about 2 to 3 hours.
