Wilton Candy Cane Cupcakes

1Bake and cool cupcakes. Line muffin pan's cavities with baking cups. Bake and cool cupcakes according to recipe instructions. Note: project time does not include this baking and cooling time.
2Decorate cupcakes with shells. Using star tip, pipe alternating color shells, starting at the outer edge of the cupcake and piping towards the center around the cupcake. Pipe a second row of alternating color shells, starting about ½" from edge. Add a 3rd row of shells.
3Decorate cupcakes with swirls. Using star tip, pipe one large Red swirl on cupcake top. Pipe White swirl on top. Repeat Red and White swirls. Using a toothpick, and alternating starting at the top and the bottom edge of the icing, drag the toothpick through the icing. Tip: clean the toothpick between each line you drag.
Note: 4-1/2 cups of batter makes about 24 cupcakes.
