Project Instructions

    Prepare Fondant. One day before serving cake, use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint fondant:
    Intense Pink: 1-1/2 oz. White fondant (about 1-1/2" diameter ball) + 30 P
    Tint remaining fondant into five additional shades of Pink:
    Lightest Pink: 3/16” diameter ball Intense Pink fondant and 1/2 oz. White fondant
    Lighter Pink: 5/16” diameter ball Intense Pink fondant and 1/2 oz. White fondant
    Medium Pink: 7/16” diameter ball Intense Pink fondant and 1/2 oz. White fondant
    Medium Dark Pink: 9/16” diameter ball Intense Pink fondant and 1/2 oz. White fondant
    Darkest Pink: 15/16” diameter ball Intense Pink fondant and 1/2 oz. White fondant

    Make Fondant Hearts. Roll out each fondant color separately, 1/16”" thick. Use smallest heart cutter to cut 1 heart Lightest Pink, 2 hearts Lighter Pink, 4 hearts Medium Pink, 5 hearts Medium Dark Pink and 4 hearts Darkest Pink. Cut extras to allow for breakage. Fold cardstock, dust with cornstarch and place fondant hearts in fold to dry, 8 hours or overnight.

    Prepare Batter. Make 4-1/2 cups of cake batter. Reserve 1/4 cup White cake batter and divide remaining batter into five even portions. Use Color Right base colors and QuickCount color formulas to tint batter:
    Intense Pink: the reserved 1/4 cup batter + 10 P
    Tint remaining batter into five additional shades of Pink:
    Lightest Pink: 1/2 tsp. Intense Pink batter + 1 portion reserved batter
    Lighter Pink: 1 tsp. Intense Pink batter + 1 portion reserved batter
    Medium Pink: 1-1/2 tsp. Intense Pink batter + 1 portion reserved batter
    Medium Dark Pink: 1 tbsp. Intense Pink batter + 1 portion reserved batter
    Darkest Pink: 2 tbsp. Intense Pink batter + 1 portion reserved batter

    Make and Assemble Cake. Bake and cool following pan set instructions. Stack cake layers from darkest at the bottom to lightest at the top, filling with icing between layers. Use spatula to smooth ice cake top.

    Decorate Cake. Position fondant hearts on cake top, placing darkest at the top to lightest at the bottom.

    Serves 8 to 10.
